Pell City's culture became richer when Rita Moritz moved here eight years
ago from Virginia. As well as bringing her love of poetry and writing
with her, she also brought fresh ideas to the artists and poets of
Alabama.
Rita’s poetry has appeared in various
publications, and she has brought a "Day of Poetry" to schools both in
Virginia and Alabama. She founded the "First Poets and Painters
Project,"
which is based on her previous experiences in Virginia. In April, 2012 she was
a featured poet at "A Night of Poetry" in Pell City, which was sponsored
by Writers Anonymous and the
Pell City Public Library.
She is a member of the
Alabama State Poetry Society,
and the
St. Clair County Council of the Arts.
Retirement hasn’t slowed Rita down and she is the founder of
Writers Anonymous, a local
poetry group that meets monthly to share their poetry and
both challenge and encourage other poets.
She has continued to write poetry and other things and
is currently working on a non-fiction book entitled "Precious
Prodigal" and has a
blog by that same name. She
also speaks at churches and for various organizations and institutions
on a variety of subjects.

Relatively new to actual writing, Margaret has had a secret
desire to write since childhood. The desire was launched
when Rita invited her to "A Night of Poetry" at the Pell
City Public Library. She is a core member of Writer's
Anonymous and a member of Alabama State Poetry Society.
Margaret holds an Associate Degree in General Studies
and a B.S. in Medical Records Administration from Samford
University in Birmingham and a joint degree from University
of Alabama Birmingham. Her certification is a national
Registered Records Administration and a member of several
professional organizations. She worked in healthcare
administration in hospitals and home health facilities in
Georgia and Alabama before retiring in 2010.
Margaret writes poetry inspired by nature, everyday
life, her values and beliefs and her poetry is both serious
and funny. Her love for the written word is an inheritance
shared by aunts, cousins and her late dad, who are writers.

Sandra has been writing
since she was eight years old and it is an avocation she has
enjoyed all her life. She had her first poem published in
the
Philadelphia Inquirer when she was ten. She enjoys all
types of writing, but poetry is her favorite. Her writings
have been published in several publications, although never
for money. That, she says, makes her a true "starving
artist.” She gets much pleasure from sharing her poems with
others. Many of her poems are humorous, many are serious,
but all are written from her heart.
